NICKNAMES: Matt
GENDER: Male
AGE: March 26th, he is 16

THE SORTING HAT
HOUSE: Gryffindor. Mathew is really happy with his house.
The traits Mathew has of his house is that he is extremely loyal and he is pretty brave, not what most people would expect from his general personality.
BLOOD STATUS: Pureblood.
Mathew doesn't think anything of his blood status, what does it matter? Muggleborns, Halfbloods, Purebloods? They are all magic so what's the difference?
WAND: 11 inches, Yew, Dragon Heartstring.
Dragon heartstring is a powerful wand with a lot of magical “heft”. It is not the core you want for subtlety, but for sheer power it is definitely the best.
Yew is a powerful wandwood. Due to its poisonous sap, it has Dark leanings, and is particularly good at Transfiguration for Mathew.
BROOM: Mathew doesn't fly.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR: Prefect[/ul]

Bits and peices come back to him every day.

OVERALL PERSONALITY: Confident – Mathew is extremely confident about everything he does, sometimes overly so. While many a time this has actually resulted in trouble for him, his confidence also means he's able to deal with people and situations a lot easier than others, and he's almost always up for anything people want to throw at him. It also leads to him being prepared to rush into danger at the drop of a hat, which could translate into confidence but is more often referred to as blind stupidity.
Sarcastic - It's wierd but true, even as nice as he is Matthew always has to put in a sarcastic remark here and there, what's the fun in a conversation if you don't joke around a little?
friendly – Mathew is a very outgoing person and will most likely always be the one to extend a hand of friendship to another. He has a very bubbly personality that many people find somewhat addictive. He is usually a very happy person, and even when he is slightly upset he tries his best to keep a smile on his face. He loves to make new friends and acquaintances and has very many close relationships with people. As long as he can find people that accept him to surround himself with he lives a pretty happy life.
trusting – Because of his eagerness to make friends, Mathew can sometimes be a little too quick to trust people. He always tries to see the best in people and so he firmly believes that everyone has an innate sense of good inside them, even if they don’t necessarily show it. He isn’t one to discriminate against Slytherins or anyone else considered to be a bad group of people until he has had personal experience with them. He will always give even meaner people second and third chances to improve themselves, and he is constantly trying to bring out the best in people, even if they may not want to at first.
sensitive – His trusting nature isn’t always a good thing though – there are many people who he will attempt to get close to who will refuse his extend in friendship and will make some sort of derogatory comment towards him. Though he is rather used to negative slurs being shouted or muttered at him, he is still very much affected by them. They do not shock him like they used to, but he still doesn’t get over the fact that people actually hate him because of who he is. It’s something that really bothers him inside, but externally he deals with it as best he can.
stubborn – Mathew can be rather stubborn when it comes to it. He doesn’t like taking no for an answer, especially when he knows that what he wants is for the better. He can be adamant and demanding about things, whether joking with someone or being completely serious.
Open – Mathew is fairly open... Or at least he seems that way. For the most part, he doesn't hide his emotions and he doesn't shy away from people or the spotlight, although occasionally he'll seem like he's not really interested, which generally means you've annoyed him somehow. He loves to hang around with new people and always takes an interest in anyone who looks remotely interesting.
reserved – Although Mathew is usually bright, bubbly and open, he does have his moments where he can be very reserved. If he is in a place where he feels uncomfortable or where he has been known to be teased before, he will sort of shrink into the shadows and try to blend in as much as possible. He does not like to attract attention to himself when he fears it will end badly, and so in times like that he much prefers to keep to himself rather than be expressive.
loyal – When Mathew is good friends with someone, he will always be supportive of them no matter what. He is always willing to lend an ear or give advice when needed, and he would never betray someone’s trust if they confided in him, because he knows how important it is to have friends you can trust. He is very committed to the people that he loves, just so long as they show him the same sort of support in return. Though he has never been in a romantic relationship, he would be just the same should he find someone to spend time with, and would never dream of going back on a commitment ot hurting someone he cared about.

Shannon Liese Kawalski, Deceased; Would be 24
Shannon was Mathew's crutch in his life, she always supported him, her death was devestating to him.
Madison Quinn Kawalski, 17, 7th year Ravenclaw
HISTORY: Mathew was born the fourth and final child to Edward and Julienne Kawalski. Edward was a well-known full-blooded wizard who worked at the Ministry of Magic in an office of rather high authority as was Julienne who was a Healer at St. Mungo’s. It was no secret that the Kawalski's were quite well off, but even though they had much money and respect from their wizarding community, they were careful to keep their children under a watchful eye and protect them from the outside view. The first children born to the couple were twins whom they called Harrison Mitchel Caine and Shannon Liese. The twins grew up rather quickly, and though they seemed very different from each other right off the bat, they were still very close and very dear to their parents’ hearts. Being such a handful, it was not until the twins were six years old that the couple welcomed their third child, Madison Quinn, another beautiful daughter. Though Shannon was quite taken with her new little sister, fondling her and helping out with her as best she could, Harrison took little interest in the new baby, in fact rather annoyed that his twin’s main focus was no longer to keep himself entertained, but to focus on Madison. Waiting only two years after their second daughter’s birth, Edward and Julienne welcomed Matthew Alexander, their second son and fourth child, and with his birth they knew their family was balanced and complete.
Much like she had with the first baby, Shannon, who was now eight, put most of her time and energy into her newest little brother, making sure he was the happiest baby he could be. Only two years old at the time, Madison became a little miffed at the fact that her sister no longer seemed to care for her as much as she had in the past, so she became more attached to her older brother. Harrison was still annoyed by his twin’s assumed betrayal, but he distracted himself by taking Madison under his wing, teaching her many things that he had learned from his father. Harrison and Madison gained the sort of camaraderie that siblings should form, while Shannon continued to bond with young Kalin. The children’s parents were not often around, since they were busy at work, so the children usually had a nanny to look after them, though they were more than capable of entertaining themselves.
In this way they all grew – Shannon and Matthew growing to be happy and carefree while Harrison and Madison tended to be a little more sullen and reserved. They were all taught by their parents that soon, the eldest two would be off to Hogwarts, and that Madison and Matthew would follow them when they were old enough. Most of them started to discover their magical abilities, though not in the order one would expect. Harrison, being the eldest and the strongest, did show the first sign of his abilities at eight years old, but not long after that, Matthew was the next to follow, at a mere age of one and a half. The parents were very confused by this, but they assumed that their children were all different and would come into their abilities when they were ready. When Madison was four, she too showed off her powers, which left only Shannon who had fallen behind. The twins’ eleventh birthday came and went, and only Harrison had received his letter invitation to Hogwarts. It was then that Edward and Julienne were finally forced to admit that their daughter was a Squib.
Harrison was rather upset when he had to go to Hogwarts alone, without Shannon by his side, but the whole ordeal seemed to have little effect on Shannon’s happiness. She was still the kind, loving girl she’d grown up to be, and Matthew was happy that he got to spend even more time with his sister. The two were very close and continued to bond when Madison too went off to Hogwarts and left them alone together. She was sorted into Ravenclaw, unlike her older brother who had gone to Slytherin. Two years later, it was finally Matthew’s turn to go to Hogwarts, and while he was sad to leave his older sister behind, he was excited to finally discover all of the wonders that Hogwarts would have to offer him.
On the train to Hogwarts Matthew made many friends, or at least acquaintances. He had always been a friendly kid, and now that he was surrounded by new potential friends he was more than happy to extend a hand of friendship to anyone he could. Of course, some were less responsive to him than others, but Matthew didn’t let that get to him. When he got to Hogwarts, he was immediately sorted into Gryffindor, which rather excited him since Red had always been one of his favorite colors. He fell right into place with his new house and got comfortable with his new school situation as he explored and learned more about the magical castle.
He loved his school with all his heart – it was one of his favorite places to be – but of course Matthew was always happy to return home and describe his Hogwarts adventures to his sister, who had never gotten the chance to experience them for herself. Matthew could tell Shannon everything, the good and the bad, and she would always listen with an open heart and mind. During his second year, he shared with Shannon something that had been bothering him since he set foot in the school, something that slightly scared him in a way. He’d heard a lot from his older brother about girls and dating, and had seen his brother being start randomly snogging in the Great Hall (which they got in trouble for) with many girls, and yet Mattew had never understood these urges. Granted, he was only twelve, but even so there were males around him that were already showing an attraction to girls, and yet none of that had ever affected him. He could never see girls as more than friends, and for a while he didn’t think much of it, but when he started to find certain boys in the school rather cute, it was then that he started to be concerned.
Shannon reassured him that it didn’t mean anything if he were gay, that she would still love him and that it was completely normal for him to have feelings. Though Matthew was still a little scared, his sister’s words comforted him, and he began to grow more comfortable with himself as a person. He was still the happy kid he had always been, and he found that most of his friends didn’t care about his new self-discovery either, and so he was incredibly relieved to find that life could go on as normally as it ever was for Matthew. He applied himself to his studies, since he was always incredibly excited to learn. He rarely got into any trouble, since he hated being reprimanded in any way – just knowing that he had disappointed someone was the worst feeling to him. He kept up his good grades and his good behavior as best as he could, and it seemed like nothing could really get him down.
That is, until the middle of his third year, just after Matthew left school for winter break, he had been at one of his friends houses when Shannon picked him up from there, when they got in an accident – They'd had been in her car driving to go get Madison from her friends place during a rather heavy snowstorm when her car lost traction and spun out into the path of an oncoming vehicle. She had been killed instantly while Madison and Matthew miraculously survived. Matthew was devastated when he heard this news when he woke up two days after, his sister having been his closest friend and confidant for his entire life.
Christmas that year was one of the saddest holidays Matthew had ever experienced – he didn’t know how he would get by without his sister to comfort him in the way only she knew how to do. Matthew tried his best to be happy in the months after that, since he knew his sister would never have wanted him to be so upset, but it was definitely the hardest thing he had ever been through.
As a method of coping, Matthew threw himself even deeper into school, earning top marks and being a prime student. The summer before his fifth year, he was assigned a shiny prefect’s badge which he was proud to have earned, though he had to admit, it made him a bit nervous. He was already the target of a lot of negative attention ever since his orientation had become clearer. He wasn’t ashamed of who he was, but sometimes the bullying he experienced was enough to keep him quiet, trying to stay hidden as best he could in order to avoid being picked on. Now with his new prefect’s duties, he is even more concerned that his own fear of bullies will prevent him from doing his job properly, but he tries to be the best prefect he can be, as well as keeping himself on top of his schoolwork.
Since the death of his older sister, Matthew felt a bit of a disconnect from his family. His parents and other siblings didn’t look on his sexual orientation as kindly as Shannon had, and most of the time they just tried to ignore Matthew’s more flamboyant actions. He quickly learned to keep control of himself when he was around them, but it still hurt him that he felt he couldn’t be himself with his own family, the people who were supposed to love him the most. Hogwarts became his new escape, and he dreaded going home more than he ever had before. He feels the most at home at the castle, and that is how he likes it. [/ul]
