Cypress is of Greek origin, and the meaning of Cypress is "From the island of cyprus"
Iris is also of Greek origin, and the meaning of Iris is "rainbow".
Langdon is one of the oldest recorded, and is of Anglo-Saxon origin, meaning is un-known.
She doesn't know how her parents came up with her name, honestly. She's a GIRL. Cypress to her doesn't sound like a girl name to her, and she always goes by Iris.

Books - If you give Iris the chance, she will skim through a book like theres no tommorrow (If she hasn't already read it) and list of more than half of what it's about.
Wizards Chess - Iris always plays to win and can be a very aggressive player.
Her kitten (The one animal she likes) - Iris is a bit picky when it comes to animals, but little Calico is her only weak spot for animals.
Being by herself - While Iris isn’t a total outcast she definitely isn’t popular to start with. People will talk to her, because she isn’t completely wrong to think she’s intelligent, but quickly tire of her lording it over them with her extremes of opinion. For this reason she has very few close friends, and decides it is just better to be by herself.
Puzzles - Give Iris a puzzle and, provided it’s challenging enough, it’ll keep her occupied until it’s complete.
Reading - Iris always has a book with her. She reads while eating breakfast, when she‘s on the loo and even while she’s doing her teeth.
Gossip - Iris likes to know all the secrets at Hogwarts. She’ll go to any lengths to find them out including eavesdropping and at times flat out asking the person involved, much to their embarrassment.
Sugar Quills - She likes them because she can suck on the end and she believes it helps her to concentrate. She always has a supply of them on hand and has even been known to suck on the end of her normal quill when she forgets it isn’t a sweet one.
Marius - People should never insult the Slytherin in front of her as she will lay into anyone who does quite heavily. In Iris’s eyes he can do no wrong.
Her hair - While she isn’t particularly vain, Iris takes pride in her hair.
DISLIKES:
Care of Magical Creatures - She thinks animals should be able to look after themselves without the help of wizards.
Perfume - She hates it when other girls practically bathe in perfume like common whores. It gives her a headache and makes her sneeze.
Strong winds - Iris is proud of her hair. She doesn’t like it when the wind messes it up and makes it all tangled.
Being interrupted - When Iris is talking people should listen, not butt in with their inferior opinions. (Of course when she does exactly the same thing it’s because what she has to say is important.)
Swearing - It’s vulgar. Iris thinks people swearing is a mark of stupidity. If they could think of an actual intelligent retort they wouldn’t rely on cursing.
Animals - As you've probably guessed already, Iris isn't an animal person... AT. ALL.
MIRROR OF ERISED: To have her mom back, her dad is just so strict and lonely without her and she never really gets to see him now that he isn't around the house that much.
DEMENTOR: Watching her fathers face when he walked in the house doors the day her mother died.
BOGGART: A selection of magical creatures attacking her. Iris really isn’t an animal person.

PATRONUS: When she first arrived at Hogwarts, the black lake, the gaint squid, how big the castle looked and still looks, she remembers it all.
A Dolphin - They’re intelligent creatures, just like Iris.
STRENGTHS:
Wizards Chess - Iris always plays to win and can be a very aggressive player. Her style isn’t subtle, she aims to attack until she obliterates the other pieces (and sulk if one of her own is taken).
Debating - Similar to chess, Iris will talk the other side into submission. She speeks with such confidence that people rarely question whether what she’s saying is the truth.
Playing the Violin - She’s had lessons since she was very young and is now quite accomplished at playing.
Quidditch - One of the few things Iris has had to work really hard for. She had little to no talent when she took lessons in first year, but she kept practicing and now she’s a decent player.
Offensive spells - Seeing as Iris is always in for the win, she's quite accomplished at Offensive magic
WEAKNESSES:
Defensive magic - As far as Iris sees, Defensive magic is a waste of time, if you can use offensive magic against someone, why do you need magic to protect you when your apoinents already knocked out cold?
Calico (Her kitten) - If something happened to Calico, Iris's only best friend in life, she wouldn't know WHAT to do.
A sad story - If someone is telling her a sad story, regardless if they are on her sid or not, she will completely let her gaurd down.
Animals - Most scare her to death.
Her dad - if someone every threatened his life because of her... She would probably give herself up and let them kill her instead of her father

Interuppting conversations if she hears something she thinks is wrong.

OVERALL PERSONALITY: Intelligent - Iris is smart and don’t anybody forget it. She’s good at puzzle solving and can debate just about anybody into submission with her quick wit (and at times stubborn refusal to back down).
Confident - She’s never afraid to voice her opinion. As she never thinks she’s wrong she doesn’t seem to worry about making a fool of herself.
Self assured - This probably stems from a life time of being praised and rewarded for her intelligence and achievements. Iris rarely ever has moments of self doubt.
Knowledgeable - Iris is like a walking encyclopaedia. She only needs to read, see or hear something once and she’ll be able to recite it back to near perfect quality. She’s rather smug about this as she feels she doesn’t have to do as much revision as other people.
Inventive - Iris is able to think outside the box. When faced with a problem she’ll try everything she knows to solve it and then she’ll sit down and think up some new strategy that probably sounds a little bit mad and extreme, but they usually work.
Stubborn - Nothing anybody says to Iris will make her change her mind once it is made up. She‘d rather chew off her own foot than admit she is wrong. In fact if she hears something she doesn‘t like she’ll become selectively deaf and twist a person’s words to fit her way of thinking.
Poor Loser - Iris can be rather competitive. Especially when it comes to her school work. She can be unpleasant in class after a test if she hasn’t got the top score in her year. Her teachers often tire of having to remark her papers when she insists that actually she deserves an O.
Dismissive - Iris won’t listen to other people’s ides. Why should she? They’re never as good at her own. For this reason she can often be marked down in group projects because she tries to do everybody else’s work for them.
Interfering - Iris likes to know everything that is going on with everyone all the time. She eavesdrops on other people’s conversations and will badger them until she knows all the details. Then she’ll form an opinion and proceed to tell it loudly to anybody who will listen.
Uncompromising - Trying to strike a deal with Iris can be a hellish experience. She thinks she’s right and the other person is wrong so she’s unwilling to let their stupid ideas corrupt her excellent one.
Blunt - Iris won’t sugar coat her opinions for anyone. She can be rather harsh and often doesn’t take other people’s feelings into account.[/size][/ul]

HISTORY: Iris was born to muggle parents. They lived in a small, but cozy, flat in Islington. Her first years were fairly uneventful, she never showed any sign of magical ability and spent her days being cared for by her parents and, at times, a nanny, because both of them still worked full time. Her mother was a nurse at the local hospital and her dad a was a small time lawyer who was often forced to work for free just to generate clients. Although they weren’t rich they got by and Iris never had anything to complain about.
When she was six years old tragedy struck the Langdon household. Her mother fell ill with cancer and although the doctors promised her chances were good within six months she was dead. Iris hadn’t really understood what was happening, but she knew everyone was sad and she wouldn’t get to see her mum any more. He father was devastated and threw himself into his work to avoid facing up to fact that his wife was dead, leaving his daughter to be cared for by various different hired childminders.
From that point on Iris developed her need to understand everything (because she associated her confusion with the loss of her mother) and also decided that if she did well at everything her father wouldn’t have to worry about her so much. She attended a muggle primary school and did very well in class. She had some trouble making friends because she’d never had any siblings to play with and so she didn’t really know how to share.
It was a complete surprise to both Iris and her father when she got the letter to Hogwarts. At first her father thought it was a joke and hired a private investigator to look into it, but thankfully a low down member of the Ministry of Magic was sent to explain everything. Iris was packed off to Hogwarts and made about the same impression on the other students as she had one her old primary school class mates. While there she met Marius Black and has since become a bit of a stalker. She worships him and simply won‘t leave him alone.[/size][/ul]

Iris gave a huge sigh which turned into a yawn somewhere along the way. Running her fingers through her long blonde hair she gathered up the locks and flicked them over one shoulder. It was a habit she’d picked up back when she was 8 and decided to start growing her hair and now she did it with annoying frequency. A quick thumb movement turned the page of the book she was reading, her brown eyes flicking quickly across the text and storing all the information away for later.
She was sitting at her house table in the Great Hall, half eaten piece of toast going cold on the plate in front of her. Eventually Iris remembered that she wasn’t just in the hall to read and picked up toast daintily before taking a not so dainty bite. She pulled a face as she realised the toast had cooled considerably and gone a bit soggy from all the butter she’d smeared across it earlier. Venturing from the pages of her book had been worth it though as she heard the two people next to her exchanging a whispered conversation.
